A new generation apparatus for the astronauts' water provision during long-term space flights

Centrifugal distiller with a heat pump for regeneration of water from liquid waste of the crew living manned spacecraft.

Innovative aspect and main advantages:
The novelty is using multistage distillation method in a complex with the thermoelectric heat pump. Unlike the better on the characteristics of used in the United States prototype vacuum compression distiller (VCD), investment apparatus provide the higher recovery water from the liquid waste (94 – 95 % compared to 70 – 80 % in VCD), less specific energy (100 W—hour/l compared to 160 W—hour/l in VCD), less in 1,5 - 2 times at the dimensions and weight.

Problem solved:
The need for such apparatus is actual for future development of life support systems in space missions of U.S.A, Russia, China, Japan and European Space Agency.

Development status:
Prototype with favorable lab results

Potential customers, markets:
Desalination plants of sea water with low productivity (to 10 l/hour) for deep-sea research apparatus and submarines with crew 10 – 15 persons
